Goals Goals Goals

In January 2018, every night for 3 weeks I sat down for a minimum of an hour and truly thought about what direction we wanted to point this ship.

Obviously the finals are always a top 5 popularity on the list. The NFR is a lifelong goal that was nearly in reach, but wasn’t meant to be grasped. Yet. The CFR was an accomplished goal, but attending was not enough. It’s something about a competitor, qualifying is a goal, but winning is the end game. And then winning again is the next goal.

Winning isn’t everything. But when you put thousands of dollars into this industry. It’s sometimes the only thing.

Now, do I have the horses to go get either of those goals? Yes. Are they ready to do that in 2018? HELL NO. At this point I have 2 two year olds I started, 2 three year olds with 60 days, a 4 year old with 30 days and a 5 year old whom went to limited events.

Then we needed to decided how to get these colts brought from a level 1 to 10. We needed time. Like anything when you make something, the older you get, the better you get at making it. Just like my Baba’s cabbage rolls or perogies that no one will ever match.

So we took all our resources and revamped our entire program. Advise from a mental coach, it takes 30 days to create a habit, 6 weeks to start seeing the changes, and 12 weeks before anyone else starts to. Well, this is true in human behaviours. But we need to add a horse into the equation.

I would say we still have similar timelines, but it takes 6 months to create those changes into subconscious movements.

One thing I have learnt, is that if your going to do something. You need a plan.

How do we reach this goal?

How much is this going to cost?

What are my resources?

Why does that work and that not?

Where are we going?

What are we going to do when we get there?

We already had the “who”. I was fortunate enough to have exceptional bloodlines placed in my hands, and I did research on the rest to get a certain breed of Barrel horse. Most importantly, proven genetics.

One of my favourite sayings, is that success requires direction.

In other words, know where your ship is going. You must become your own Captain, otherwise that ship will be adrift and banked on some random island. The only way to maintain success is to know how to direct your energy towards it.

As we conclude 2018, and move into 2019,the word opportunity stands out in every direction I look. Many of my 2018 goals were :

Win either the futurity or derby Canadian year end title (Thank you Ronald)

Go to 15 rodeos

Increase my training knowledge

So well at the BFA (thank you Chicka)

Get a bigger trailer to haul more horses  (thank you Jesus)

My main 2019 goals are to place at an American futurity, and at least one pro rodeo.

I’m trying to stay realistic because at the end of the day all we have it babies.

Wishing everyone who reads this gratitude and opportunity for 2019.

God bless.
