What makes you tick?

So today’s topic, is what makes you tick? What Makes you get up in the morning and do what you do? Are you a breeder? A competitor? A rookie?

What makes me tick?

I was fortunate enough to find my true passion at a young age. I was also fortunate to start developing that passion into a talent and skill from a young age. I truly believe I have the best job in the world, for me. And when you have that feeling, who wouldn’t want to get out of bed in the morning? Every horse I work with is an individual and it’s my job to sort out their personality, their strengths and weaknesses, and create this super cool product! Every day is like starting with a giant puzzle and aligning the correct pieces in order, until one day this brilliant image appears.

My all time favourite conversations are with people who are genuinely excited. You can feel the positive vibe from them, and their eyes light up. That’s passion.

Every person in every industry plays a role. And without each of them, the wheel would not turn quite right.

My most valuable individual in my world is the breeder. They have such a vast knowledge, they don’t ask for much in return, and they deal with more heart ache than anyone will ever know. Breeding is not for the faint of heart. When you stumble across a good breeder, who’s program suits you, make sure to make them feel appreciated. Let them ride along on your journey with the prospect they created.

Are there days your just to tired to do it?

YES, but I get my but out of bed at 5:30 am every morning just the same. Those mornings might call for an extra cup of joe.

Because here is the thing, getting out of bed and going to ride a herd of horses, is as routine to me, as brushing my teeth and washing my hair. Neither of the last two habits were “fun” or “easy” to create as a child. But we have been trained over time to subconsciously do these things in our daily routine, or something just doesn’t feel quite right. You can do the same thing to riding your horse. And there is temptation to quit, or maybe go tomorrow rather than today, but right when you start telling yourself it can “wait”, is usually when it gets hard, and when it gets hard your actually that close to creating that habit into your daily routine! I’ve never been a smoker but I believe it would be a similar theory to quitting smoking, if you can get over those cravings when they are calling the loudest, your probably closer to the end than you realize.

Remember the training with a purpose blog, how we touched on trains my proper habits into your horse? Well we must also train proper habits into ourselves.  How? Write them down. And stay true to them. Seriously this is that easy and complicated all at the same time. Write down the habits you want to create, and read them every morning and every evening. Think about why you want them. And most importantly, think of the current habits you hold, and how the allow yourself to be presented by having them. Maybe you have a messy truck. Someone gets in and sees "Disorganized". Maybe you are always late and people have a hard time making plans with you.  Maybe you don't pitch in for gas money, and people think your a "free loader". I think you all get the point. These are small and easy corrections. Make a point of being on time. Make a point of planning your day so you can get to all your appointments on time. Do some self reflecting, and make yourself a better individual. In my rig, if I say 8:00 and your there at 8:30 you are MOST likely staying home, or finding a new ride, because this rig left at 8:00. I also have a zero tolerance policy for gossip. If for 2 hours, you can not tell me anything but what other people are doing, have done, might do.. That will probably be your only trip with me. Gossip is tacky, and contains a lot of negative energy. My favorite travelling partners and friends, are the ones who can make you laugh with sarcasm, and terribly funny true-event stories.  Have you all met my friend Fallon? That girl will make you laugh until you cry in person. I also want to add in on this piece, to appreciate a good product. Seriously, if so and so wins the barrel race by 4 tenths of a second, DO NOT run back to the trailer and turn betty barrel racer on how that person "cheated" to get that result. The chances are that person has been working their butt off for a LONG period of time, and deserves someone to walk over and tell them they did a good job. Use that great run as motivation, for yourself to reach that level. If it can be done once, that result can be recreated! If your a local barrel racer, and enter an event with NFR barrel racers, do not complain that they are there. USE THEM. Seriously, they are walking vaults of knowledge, ASK THEM QUESTIONS. They will share their information. Honestly, any person who competes at an elite level, has mastered some aspects of the sport. If your not at an elite level, these people can help you to GROW. We all have the power to make ourselves better. It just takes a little bit of time and a lot of hard work.

“ Let us not weary in doing good, for at the right time we will reap the harvest, if we do not give up”. Galatians 6:9
